Not an apology to someone named Tom.

“If you need to attend your son’s basketball game or your daughter’s dance recital, Ill think more of you as an individual, but don’t expect to be the first promoted, you can’t have everything”.

Tom Peters, Thriving on Chaos, 1987

What?!

“I’m Sorry Tom, but that’s whacked”.

The author and business consultant Tom Peters, www.tompeters.com was very instrumental in the development of my business acumen.  With In Search of Excellence, Passion for Excellence and his third book, Thriving on Chaos specifically, he gave me the education I otherwise would not formally have gotten.

I fell on every word, and he is equally relevant today.

Except for that one passage up top…that struck me as dumb.

In 1987 I was 29, had voted for Reagan, twice, had already been married 9 years and had two wonderful sons.  Forsaking them for a promotion really didn’t seem like success to me, still doesn’t.

Since then, I have been on a mission to prove that you CAN have everything.

This is how I am doing…so far.
